It was hard to narrow down the list of nominees for Female Athlete of the Year, and even more difficult to pick a winner. So, we are leaving that part up to you. Here are our 3 nominees for The Ashley Furniture HomeStore Varsity Zone Female Athlete of the Year:

1. Pinnacle’s Sydney Wiese. The six foot tall combo guard can shoot lights out from behind the arc. She took her team to the state championship this season, but fell short to St. Mary’s. Next year, she will take her talents to Corvallis, playing with Oregon State.

2. St. Mary’s High’s Courtney Ekmark. Only a Junior, but has shined on a talented, state championship winning, roster. Tough to do- when 5 of the seniors are headed to Division 1 programs next season. Ekmark has already commited to UConn, but will be back next season as the favorite to repeat– again — as the state champs.

3. Horizon’s Tamara Statman. No one dominated the mound more than Tamara “T” Statman. The Horizon pitcher is only a Sophmore, but, wise beyond her years. The Arizona Wildcat commit used her 4.0 GPA smarts to start up a charity where she raises money for skin cancer research for every strike thrown. You can donate at skinexam.org.

We will announce the winner on The Varsity Zone this Friday, May 17th @ 10:30pm on 3TV
